Mushrooms or Psilocybin is a - mind-altering drug - a hallucinogen that distorts reality and makes whatever you are experiencing...what you hear, see, smell, touch, ect. seem real, though it may not be. With any hallucinogen the experience is unpredictable and can turn ugly quickly...yet there is no way of "getting out of it" until the drugs exits your system hours later.

This hallucinogenic drug looks like dried mushrooms which are either eaten or brewed in a tea. The mind-altering part in mushrooms are called psilocybin and psilocin. Psilocybin is structurally similar to serotonin, which is known as the happy hormone in your brain and causes its effects by disrupting the normal functions of the real serotonin hormone that your brain produces. Mushrooms are also known as caps, magic mushrooms, shrooms, psilocybin and psilocin.

However, even ingesting so-called "magic mushrooms" can lead to adverse effects. Possible bad reactions to magic mushrooms include nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, paranoia, or unpleasant hallucinations.

Another potentially lethal side effect of experimenting with "magic mushrooms" is mistaking a poisonous mushroom for a non poisonous one - which is easier to do than most think. Those who do ingest poisonous mushrooms may have as few as 12 hours to seek medical treatment before irreversible and potentially fatal liver damage occurs.

  • The effects of psychedelic drugs vary tremendously and are difficult to categorize since they provide access to vastly different states of consciousness.

  • Effects can be different during each use depending on its potency, the amount ingested, and the user's expectations, mood, surroundings, and frame of mind.

Short-term Effects

  • Once ingested, mushrooms generally cause feelings of nausea before any other affect.
  • The high from using magic mushrooms may cause altered feelings and distorted perceptions of touch, sight, sound and taste. Other effects can include nervousness and paranoia.
  • On some trips, users experience sensations that include terrifying thoughts, and anxiety, fears of insanity, death, or losing control.
Long-term Effects

Some mushrooms users experience "flashbacks", or hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD), which is a reoccurrence of hallucinations long after ingesting the drug. The causes of these effects, which in some users occur after using it only once, are not known
